Welcome to NobsGameGuides
This is the first Extreme Trial in Final Fantasy Dawntrail, and in this video, I will try to guide you through the fight and simply explain how to deal with each and every mechanic.
First Mechanic: Spikesicle
This is a simple linear ground AoE combined with some ice cubes that will explode in the same sequence they appear. The trick to dodging them is to watch where the first line heads and go the opposite way. After that, you can pretty much follow your team and dodge on the fly. If you want to depend on yourself, watch which ice cube has just exploded and dodge accordingly.
After that, healers have to heal two big AoEs. DPS can relax for about 25 seconds until the next major mechanic:
Volcanoes
There are two volcanoes, left and right, and one of them will erupt. What you can do is turn your camera to see one of them and wait for the alarm text to appear. If the volcano you are watching isn’t erupting after the alarm, it means you should run that way. If it erupts, you run the other way.
Now, remember: after the volcano, you have to run to your designated positions. Before starting the trial, everyone should choose a position based on their role. After every volcano, run to your position immediately.
Random Mechanic: Three Possible Attacks
The boss will randomly perform one of three different attacks, and you must dodge accordingly. You can identify the attack by reading the alarm text or watching the boss’s animations:
Bleak:
- Alarm says “Bleak,” or the boss performs a small dash back.
- The boss strikes with a cone AoE.
- Dodge: Run to the front edge of the platform.
- Tip: Since this is the hardest to dodge, always prepare for this one and adjust if another attack occurs.
Strength:
- Alarm says “Strength,” or the boss glows red and moves to the front of the arena.
- The boss strikes at melee range.
- Dodge: Melee players should stop hitting and step back.
Wind:
- Alarm says “Wind,” and the boss starts flying and glows green.
- The boss performs a donut attack.
- Dodge: Stand in the middle of the arena.
Volcano Follow-Up
After the volcano mechanic, run to your positions and prepare for the random attack. Right after the boss executes the attack, either you or your partner will explode. Stack with your designated partner to survive.
Ice Markers
Half of your team will be marked with ice. These players need to move when their timers expire.
Tank Buster
- A circle appears in the middle of the arena.
- The boss strikes six times, and tanks must swap after each hit to survive.
- The rest of the group must position behind the tank relative to where the boss is looking.
- Note: The boss’s movement is random, so stay alert.
Fire AoEs
- Stack into two groups (left and right) to soak three fire AoEs.
- These leave a fire puddle behind.
Repeat of Ice Markers and Volcano
- Players who didn’t have the ice marker earlier will now be marked.
- Dodge the volcano attack as before.
- After the volcano, run to your positions immediately to share the explosion with your partner.
Electric AoE Spread
- Spread to avoid overlapping for a simple electric AoE attack.
Adds Phase
- Kill the adds quickly while staying in line for the AoE.
- Tanks should be first in line.
Wind Phase
- Begins with a fire puddle AoE. Soak it with your group.
- Next are proximity AoEs. Dodge these in the order they explode.
- Once at your final position, kill the closest feather to create a safe spot.
Lightnings and Ice
- Lightnings must spread.
- Ice players must move around.
Random Boss Attack (Bleak, Strength, or Wind)
Dodge as before:
- Bleak: Front edge.
- Strength: Back off.
- Wind: Middle.
After dodging, you’ll leave a puddle behind. Stack with your team and run away immediately after the attack to avoid standing in the puddle.
Electric Portals
- Only one lane is safe.
- Identify it by watching the portals.
Ice Phase
- Starts with a raid-wide AoE.
- Tanks run away from the group for an AoE tank buster.
- The rest of the team stacks into two groups to soak fire AoEs.
Avalanche Mechanic
- A pushback combined with heavy AoE damage.
- Identify whether it’s coming from the left or right.
- Prepare for the random boss attack (Bleak, Wind, or Strength).
Safe Spot with Portals
- Identify the safe spot based on portal positioning:
- If Mark 1 has no portals, safe spot is A.
- If Mark 1 has a portal, safe spot is B.
Spikesicle + Avalanche
- This is the same mechanic as at the start, but with an extra Avalanche added.
- Stay alert and dodge both.
Freezing Dust
- The boss casts Freezing Dust, which freezes anyone not moving. Keep moving!
Final Tank Busters and AoEs
- Another AoE tank buster for both tanks.
- Followed by raid-wide AoEs.
- Ends with the same tank swap buster as before.
