Welcome to NobsGameGuides
In this video, I will show you how to clear your screen from unnecessary nameplates. As you can see, we are at Limsa Etherite, one of the most popular places in Final Fantasy 14. By default, our screen would be covered by names and titles.
Hiding Unnecessary Names and Titles
What I did here was to hide every stranger’s name and title until I actually select them, but I keep the names of my friends always visible. This way, not only can I enjoy and immerse into the non-stop Limsa fest, but also be able to identify my friends in huge crowds. NPCs and interactable objects are always visible, which means we can easily find vendor quest NPCs and quest objectives in between a large number of players.
Managing Enemy Names and HP Bars
With my next option, I hide the names of enemy monsters, but I keep the HP bars always on. This option not only helps me identify which monster I have to kill for a quest, but also keeps my screen as clean as possible in large pulls inside a dungeon. Again, targeting a monster will make its name appear.
Adjusting Group Names and HP Bars
After that, with my next option, I hide my group’s names, but I keep their HP bars always on. This is most convenient inside the 24-man raid, because you can find where your group is located very easily. For me, I don’t need to know who is standing where; I’m okay only knowing my teammate’s location, and I prefer keeping my screen as clean as possible. You can actually enable HP bar color per role if you like. You can adjust them any way you like and make it work.
Personal Settings for HP Bars
Now, let’s jump into the settings itself. First, we have our own HP bar. Since I’m pretty sure I will never forget my own name, there is no reason for it to appear in any situation, so I keep the display name always off. Companions and pets are also something that most of the time you don’t care where they stand, so I keep their names off as well.
Customizing Party Member Colors
On the other tab, you can change your party members’ color into anything you like. I personally chose a bright green that stands out in every environment. Set display name settings on when targeted, and keep the HP bar settings always on. Of course, there is no reason for me to know where my party companions and pets are located, so I keep them off as well.
Managing Alliance Members and Player Characters
Next, alliance members. We don’t care about them at all. Maybe a healer would like to see friendly low HP players, but honestly, even when I’m healing, I’m checking HP bars from the party list, so display names are set to never, and HP bar settings are set to never.
For other player characters, who are everyone not in our group, as I said in the beginning, I want to see their names only when I target them. I keep their HP bar visible only when their HP is below 100%, in case someone needs a hand in the open world. For my friends, I choose another bright color, and I keep their name always on. Their HP bar, on the other hand, is useless outside of combat, so I keep it off.
Non-Playable Characters and Enemy Adjustments
Moving to the next tab, non-playable characters. We like to see the unengaged enemy HP bars at all times, so we can identify where the enemies are, but we don’t really care about their names. So, HP bar settings are always on, and names only when targeted.
Next, we have the engaged enemies, which are enemies that you or a party member have attacked. Claimed enemies are enemies attacked by another player who is not a party member, and unclaimed enemies are enemies attacking you or a party member, but you haven’t hit them yet. Of course, you can adjust their colors in any way you like. For NPC names, we like this always on, so we can identify vendor NPCs, etc. I like to see their HP only when below 100%, in case we have to heal them inside the duty.
