Early Game Warrior Build: The Veilguard
As the title suggests, let’s go and have a look on an early game warriors build, with a two-handed weapon for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
This build is not a mathematically broken option to cheese the game, but it is very efficient and fun, if you like to smash things up!
How It Works
To begin, let’s first have a look on how it looks like.
In general, we want to simply apply a weakness status on our target with a mage companion, and then trigger that weakness status with the HEROIC LEAP ability.
In addition to the detonate damage, Heroic Leap will also critically hit our target when it is weakened.
After that, our best DPS output gonna be through charged attacks!
It might look pretty simple, but don’t forget that this is a build that requires less than half of the maximum levels.
Getting Started
To get it running, we gonna need around 20 levels, and what we are looking for is to acquire this perk that will add the charged attack bonuses to our smash abilities.
In case you are new to Dragon Age, smash abilities is just a type of attack that you can see on the skills description right here.
Since we are looking at an ability, it’s good to know that by pressing the prompted key you can see additional information about that spell.
For example, here it says that it will critically hit if the target is weakened, and also say that it will detonate weakened targets for bonus explosive damage.
Additionally, only by acquiring it, it will give us passive bonus ability damage.
Building the Perks
Now, let’s go back to our build.
Once we acquire this perk, our next goal is to find everything on the way here to buff charged attacks and smash abilities even more.
I will not get you into the details of every perk, I will just mention the important ones, just so you can pick relevant perks on your own later in the game.
Decisive Finish will boost charged attack damage by 10%.
Concentration will boost it for another 10%.
Medium Armor Mastery will boost it for another 20% if we wear medium armor.
Staggering Charge will boost the stagger our charge attacks apply by 20%.
Overhand Smash will make our smash abilities deal 50% damage vs armor and 50% more stagger.
Finally, the last thing about rook abilities that you should know is that, as I’ve previously mentioned, only by acquiring an ability, it will give us passive bonus damage. No need to equip, just unlock it.
Late Game Additions
Later in the game, apart from any other passive that will boost smash and charge attacks, we would like to acquire rage regeneration perks, and this tricky perk called Triple Thread that will boost our ability damage for another 20% if we have three different types of damage abilities equipped.
To make it work, we will use:
Heroic Leap ability for the physical damage.
Spectral Bulwark for necrotic damage.
Fury of the Forge, for fire damage.
Needless to say, we don’t want to use Fury of the Forge; we just equip it to unlock Triple Thread passive’s benefits.
Spectral Bulwark, on the other hand, costs no fury, so we can use it on cooldown.
Companion Spells
Let’s now move to the companion’s spells.
As I’ve mentioned, all we care about is to have someone apply weakness.
It’s very early in the game to worry about the damage output of your companions since it will be very low compared to yours.
For a second companion, it’s good to have someone who can apply sunderer, since it will boost the damage output from every source.
Weapons and Armor
As for weapons and armor, there is an axe that will boost your charged attacks damage, and it is dropped randomly or from some specific chests. I will leave a link in the description. Any medium armor head and body that will boost your ability damage will suffice.
Combat Combo
Let’s have a final look at the combo in real time, and you are good to go.
Starting the fight, we apply weakness to our target.
Then apply sunderer.
Then, if we have the required fury, we cast Heroic Leap.
Conclusion
